Booking a lesson (riders and owners)

Four steps on the barn’s page - Lesson, Time, Rider, Pay - with credits, card, or your account.

Barns that take bookings online have a Lessons section on their public page at stables.co/f/their-barn. Booking runs in four steps: Lesson, Time, Rider, Pay.

Step by step

  1. Lesson - pick what you want to ride. Each lesson type shows its length, how many riders it holds, and its price.
  2. Time - pick from the barn’s scheduled times, each showing spots left. You can pick several at once (up to 12 in one booking), including the same weekday and time for the next few weeks. A full time offers the waitlist instead.
  3. Rider - say who is riding: you, someone already on your account, or a new name. If the lesson needs you to bring a horse, name the horse here.
  4. Pay - use lesson credits if you have enough, pay by card, or have it billed to your account at the barn. A free lesson skips this step.

The barn’s policy is shown before you pay: when bookings close, how far ahead they open, and how late you can cancel for free. Some barns ask you to tick that you’ve read the cancellation policy.

After you book

You get a confirmation on screen and by email, with an Add to calendar button. Where the barn approves each booking, you’ll see “Request sent” instead, and hear either way by email.

The evening before, everyone riding gets a reminder email saying when the lesson is, which barn it is at, and who is teaching it.

To cancel, contact the barn

Your barn sets the cancellation window and takes riders off a lesson themselves. Get in touch before that window closes.

Booking a service from an independent provider — a trainer, farrier or vet — works differently; see Booking a service (owners).

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Stables account to book a lesson?
No. You can book as a guest and pay by card. An account lets you be billed on account and use lesson credits you have bought.
Why can’t I book a time I can see?
Either it is full, or it falls outside the barn’s booking window — too close to the lesson, or further ahead than the barn opens bookings. The page says which.
