Emailing a client

Email one client from their page in Stables, see where their reply goes, and find every email Stables has sent them.

Each client has a Communications section on their page. It is where you email that one client, and where Stables keeps a record of every email it has sent them for you.

  • Barns: open Clients, select the client, and open the Communications section.
  • Service providers: open Clients, select the client, and choose the Communications tab.
  • In the Stables mobile app, open the client and choose the Communications tab.

Sending an email

  1. Select Email followed by the client’s first name (for example Email Ann).
  2. Enter a Subject and a Message. Blank lines start a new paragraph.
  3. Optional: Attach files - PDFs or images, up to 5 files of 10MB each. (Attachments are on the web; the app sends text only.)
  4. Optional: tick Send me a copy to be copied on the email.
  5. Select Send email.

The email goes to the client’s email address on file, from your barn’s (or business’s) name via Stables, and says it was sent through Stables.

Where replies go

The client can reply from their normal email. Their reply goes to your own email address - the address on the account of the person who sent it (or the barn’s contact email if that person has none). Replies do not come back into Stables and are not saved there.

What Stables keeps

The Communications section lists, newest first, every email Stables has sent this client for you:

  • Emails written here (select Read email to see the full text).
  • Invoice emails, agreement signature requests, booking and lesson reminder emails, and announcements.

Each one shows who sent it, when, and its status: Sent, Bounced, Failed or Skipped with the reason (for example, the client turned announcement emails off). Use Load more to see older ones. The client’s replies are not part of this list.

When you can’t email a client

  • The client has no email address on file - add one to the client first.
  • Email to their address bounced, or they marked an email from Stables as spam. Stables will not send to that address again; check it with the client.
  • You have sent 50 client emails in the last 24 hours. Try again later.
  • You are barn staff without the Clients Email clients permission. Owners and managers have it by default; the owner can turn it on for other roles under Facility Settings → Staff.

Messaging instead

If the client has a Stables account, Message in Barn Chat (Message in Messages, for service providers) on the same section opens a conversation with them, and their replies stay in Stables. To email many clients at once, see Email all your clients with Announcements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a copy of the email saved in the client’s profile?
Yes. Every email Stables sends a client for you is listed on their Communications section. The client’s reply is not saved in Stables; it goes to your own inbox.
If a client replies, where does it go?
To the email address of the person who sent it (or your barn’s contact email). It does not come back into Stables.
Can I email someone who is not my client?
No. You can only email clients on your Clients list, at the address on file.
