Established in the early 1970s, this nonprofit equestrian facility provides a place to board, ride, and train near Black Mountain Road, with convenient access from State Route 56 and Interstate 15.
Boarding accommodations include pipe corrals, box stalls, and spacious paddocks with shelter. Daily care includes two hay feedings, with Bermuda and/or alfalfa available, along with stall cleaning seven days a week. Extra feedings, tack shed rentals, and trailer parking are available for an additional fee, allowing owners to supplement the standard boarding arrangement.
The grounds offer several spaces for schooling and exercise, including a large lighted riding and turnout arena, two medium-sized arenas, and a round pen. Regular arena watering and grooming support everyday use, while wash racks provide a dedicated area for rinsing horses after a ride.
For boarders who enjoy riding beyond the arena, trails connect directly to the property without requiring road crossings. Riders can explore Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve to the west or follow the Trans County Trail to the east. This access is a boarding amenity; the center does not offer public trail-riding services.
Horseback riding lessons are available on-site through Horsebound, a separately operated program serving children ages seven and older, as well as adults. Horsebound also offers weeklong summer horse camps and manages its own lesson reservations, camp schedules, and pricing.
Beyond boarding and riding instruction, Canyonside supports equine-assisted learning and educational programs through community partnerships. Its nonprofit mission emphasizes expanding access to experiences with horses, particularly for underserved and underrepresented groups throughout San Diego County.
